WWOW
is currently promoting four projects. For a list of our past
projects click here.
Current
Projects
Hate
Crime Prevention
In
recent years members of the Waterloo Region African community have
experienced incidents of hate crime. Consultation with the
community has revealed that many people are reluctant or unaware
of how to best address these situations. Through stronger
lines of communication with the community WWOW, in partnership
with the University of Waterloo and the Kitchener -Waterloo
African Women's Alliance, will present a formal plan of action to
address the issue of hate crimes in our community.
Home
Energy Saver Program
HESP
offers low or no cost green home visits for low- income/immigrant
residents in the Waterloo region. Green home assessments
help residents cut back on their energy costs while also improving
home air quality and lessening their environmental impact.
For this program, trained assessors come to the home to offer tips
and products to help residents reduce their hydro and gas bills.
Youth
Empowerment Safety and Support Program
The
YESS program has been designed to bring a better understanding of
other cultures and improve community safety. WWOW recognized
that lower income youth from diverse ethnocultural backgrounds
face many barriers from participating in recreational activities,
such as cost, discrimination, and lack of transportation. So
YESS helps ethnocultural youth to be able to participate in
recreational activities available in our region. In
addition, YESS offers workshops, after school programs, and
drop-ins. Contact WWOW for information
on future YESS events.
Child
Safety Audit Program
The
Child Safety Audit Program (CSAP) provides education to families
on potential hazards to the well-being of a child at home.
Available products include home-audits by trained personnel to
assess health-risks within the household, referral to community
health resources, and parent support workshops on behaviour
management, CPR/First-Aid training, and wellness and
health-support techniques.
